Whether you don full lycra or bike in heels - everyone is encouraged to commute by cycle next week.
During February, Kiwis are asked to adopt a healthier mode of transport for Bike Wise Month, with locals given an extra incentive from February 9 to 13.
People can grab afree breakfast on the run during Go By Bike Day next Wednesday at the Hastings Clock Tower from 7am to 8.30am, with other businesses coming on board to extend the service all week.
"It is for anyone who can ride a bike and it is great to see a number of Hastings schools encouraging their students to take part in a ride to the CBD before beginning their school day," Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers said. The concept aimed to bring families, friends and like-minded enthusiasts together to give cycling a go, no matter what their ability.
Now in its 13th year, Bike Wise is an institution with about 80,000 cyclists taking part in 850 events throughout the country last year alone. Hastings district councillor Henare O'Keefe will lead the ride for school children from Flaxmere Park at 7am on Wednesday.
"The aim is to top the almost 100 cyclists who joined the ride last year. The kids have an amazing time as we ride into the CBD escorted by Hastings police."
Spot prizes will be handed out during the breakfast and there will be free entertainment.
TripSwitch returns for another year from March 2 to March 8. It is free to sign up and participants pledge to switch one car ride a day for cycling or walking over seven consecutive days.
