Temporary speed restrictions have been put in place on SH5 around the Glengarry region while a tree-felling programme is carried out.

As well as reduced speeds, a stop-go signalling system will be in place at times.

There would be "occasional" delays for motorists using the highway through to Taupo, a New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman said.

Two highway works programmes on the stretch also have temporary speed restrictions in place.

Contractors are carrying out repair work on the Waione Bridge at Tarawera as well as road surface repair work also in the Tarawera region.

Surface work is also being carried out around the Morere Hill on SH2 north between Napier and Wairoa.

Delays up to five minutes are likely as stop-go signalling and speed restrictions are in place.

Between Waihua and Willowflat Rd seal widening and guardrail work is being carried out and the NZTA is asking motorists to drive with caution through the area as the shoulder strip has been closed and workers are on the road.

Seal widening work is also under way on SH2 south between Hastings and Dannevirke from Te Mahanga to Te Hauke and speed restrictions are in place.

There will be minor delays at times.

Restrictions remain in place at the two major road construction sites in the region — the Expressway and Watchman Rd roundabout at Westshore and the Pakowhai Links roundabout.
