GLAMPING UP: The interior of a tent at Birch Hill.

GLAMPING UP: The interior of a tent at Birch Hill.

Birch Hill Station is the quintessential Central Hawke's Bay sheep and beef farm, with 1300ha of scenic farmland and native bush.

Suited to all types of people, from those who simply want to relax and get away from city life, to the more active and adventurous sort, there is certainly no shortage of activities during the stay.

The property, which has been in the Tosswill family since 1975, saw Ben and Libby Tosswill open up their farm for glamping last year.

Libby Tosswill believes "every detail has been thought of, all you need to do is bring your food, anything you'd like to drink and then enjoy yourself".

"Especially great for groups, Birch Hill has three luxury canvas tents, accommodating up to nine people. Birch Hill is an amazing destination for couples, family groups, girls' weekends, or group holidays. The tents are completely set up with everything you need. All you need to do is pack like you're going to a hotel - and turn up! The campsite is only ever used by one group at a time - whether there are two or nine of you."

Activities range from soaking in the outdoor bath, relaxing in a hammock with a book while the kids play in the sandpit, paddling pool and sprinkler, walking or biking the many farm tracks, stargazing at night with a telescope or simply roasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire.

Not far from the property, guests can explore Porangahau village and Porangahau beach, as well as a range of other places not too far afield.

"We loved using our travel experiences and many ideas to create a unique and comfortable glamping experience. It is the perfect place to relax with friends and family, get away from it all and re connect. We really enjoy sharing our beautiful property with others. It's especially lovely when we have international guests - who are completely wowed by the wide open spaces and views," Mrs Tosswill said.

Guests can enjoy all aspects of camping, with none of the hassle - great facilities, comfy beds, linen and more.

Birch Hill station has about 4000 breeding sheep, and anywhere between 100 to 400 cattle. Stunning views from the front of the site stretch out over the rolling farmland of the Porangahau countryside, while the back is ringed with mature kanuka and pine trees.
