Northern areas of Hawke's Bay such as Mahia will get stuck under the front and should get a heavy downpour, while mountainous and elevated areas of the region should experience strong northerly winds.
Scattered rain will develop overnight, but nothing exceptional, and will make way for a dry day today.
High cloud should hover over the cities while there is a warning in place for the eastern Bay of Plenty which will make its way to Hawke's Bay later this afternoon.
Tomorrow will bring showers in the morning, which will hang around until Friday.
A south westerly change this weekend will bring rain and strong westerly winds.
The change will see general scattered rain between periods of fine weather.
Temperatures will pick up to the late teens in the next couple of days but will drop significantly in time for the weekend.
An overnight low of 0C is forecast for Saturday.
