It might be taking place on Friday 13th but organisers of a new city street festival believe this week's Friday Street Fiesta will still be a roaring success with the public, retailers - and black cats.

The street festival is organised by the Napier City Business Inc group, which will be hosting a "Fiesta-first" with a Friday Street Fiesta planned for Emerson and Market Sts in Napier on July 13.

Napier City Business Inc acting manager Steph Kennard said the Friday Street Fiesta, starting at 5pm, would see food trucks lined the length of upper Emerson St, while the Beer Appreciation Day crew would also be set up in Market St.

Visitors would be able to choose from a vast array of street food while enjoying the entertainment, including Bay Batacuda, Flaming Maniacs, Napier Prison, Napier Operatic Society and Napier Music Academy.

"This is the first time we have held an event of this nature within Emerson and Market Sts. Two years ago we held a Fiesta in Clive Square as part of the F.A.W.C Festival. We have planned this event as part of a wider strategy of greater vibrancy within the CBD after traditional retail hours."

Kennard said the group was excited to host the Friday Street Fiesta."This the first time the streets have been closed in the evening for food trucks and entertainment. Interest is high and we are expecting a great turnout.

"There is loads of great entertainment, delicious street food and many retailers will be open."

The Fiesta will close at 8pm.
