Hawke's Bay United has appealed the one-game match suspension handed out to its soccer coach, Brett Angell.

"Although Brett has already served the suspension, in this instance the club believes there are, in our eyes, enough discrepancies between the various reports and the reasoning for our coach been ejected from the match and additionally suspended for one further game that an appeal had to be lodged," says the Hawke's Bay franchise general manager, Shane McKenzie, in a press statement.

"We have not taken this decision lightly and will now await the outcome of the NZF disciplinary committee," said McKenzie before the Thirsty Whale-sponsored team host the Wanderers at Bluewater Stadium, Napier, on Sunday.

Angell was sent off the Park Island venue in the round eight ISPS Handa Premiership match against Tasman on December 10.

The club says it received written notice of the suspension on the afternoon of Friday, December 15. From there a request was made for the full written "terms of the decision" to the NZF competitions director and competitions manager, Daniel Farrow and Kevin Forde, respectively.

Bay United received those "terms" on Tuesday, December 19.

It formally lodged the appeal with the NZ Football disciplinary committee, via Farrow, on Thursday, December 28, and is awaiting a decision.

Angell had served his one-match suspension in the final game against the Canterbury United Dragons in Christchurch before the premiership took an adjournment for the traditional Christmas holidays.

The premiership resumes with round nine this weekend.

Bay United are sitting ninth on the table on nine points, above last-placed, winless Wanderers on one point for a draw.

Captain Bill Robertson's side have had four losses and a draw in their last five outings.
