Havelock North's Napier Rd was transformed for a food festival last night.

About 3000 people flocked to the event, which was Winter F.A.W.C!'s Food Alley.

For one night only, Napier Rd, in the heart of the Village, was closed off so people could eat on the street.

It was a celebration of artisan takeaways and food truck classics.

The Bay's finest vendors gathered for a delicious, greasy exchange of the finest fast food in town. There were 17 stallholders, selling everything from barbecued food to pizza, hot soups and coffee.

Havelock North Business Association president Sam Jackman helped organise the event. He said the night was a great success. "In a word, fantastic! There was such an amazing turnout, the vendors ran out of food.

"The no-booze restriction was a great idea and made for a real family affair."

There were no problems during the evening, other than a bit of litter to clean up.

"It was an extremely successful evening. The vendors are happy and it was amazing to see a street full of people," Mr Jackman said. "It came about with the marketing team. We wanted to get involved with Winter F.A.W.C! and showcase our restaurants and food people."
