Hastings crash: One dead, another seriously injured overnight

One person has died and another is in serious condition after a two-vehicle crash in Hastings overnight.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Southampton St West, near the intersection with King St South, about 12.20am.

One driver died at the scene. The other was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

No one else was in either car.

Police are supporting the next of kin. The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene, and inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Streets cordoned off in Napier

And in Napier, police have cordoned off several streets after a serious incident overnight.

Emergency services were called to Alexander Ave in Onekawa at approximately 3.10am.

Cordons are in place at the intersections of:

  • Hitchings and Alexander Aves
  • Dinwiddie Ave and Wallis Place
  • Alexander Ave near Dinwiddie Ave

A scene examination is under way and the cordons are expected to remain in place throughout the day.

Police say it is too early to comment further.
