A tree-felling programme along the State Highway 50 Expressway link between the Pakowhai Rd intersection and the Tutaekuri River Bridge is expected to be wrapped up around June 15.

For safety reasons large poplars, many of which have begun spreading branches over the roadway, are being removed.

At times there could be traffic delays of up to five minutes, but those will be limited to between 9am and 3pm to avoid disrupting peak-hour flows.

Motorists are advised to allow for possible delays if heading for meetings, appointments or flights.

Further south, on SH2 at Waipukurau, two major work programmes are under way and motorists are advised that detours and closures are in place.

Pavement reconstruction is being carried out at the Herbert St/ Peel St (heavy traffic bypass route) intersection.

Detours will be in place during daylight hours. and while the route will be open at night extreme care is needed.

Speed restrictions are in place.

Construction of a roundabout at the SH2 Ruataniwha St / Herbert St intersection is also continuing. Detours will be in place until 7am Monday with the site then opening to traffic under controlled conditions.

However, motorists are urged to avoid travelling through the site if they can.

Also on SH2 south pavement repairs are being carried out between Fernhill and Maraekakaho, and between Onga Onga and Takapau.

On SH2 north roadworks are taking place between Putorino and Mohaka, while guardrail installation work is being undertaken at the Mohaka Rail Viaduct near Raupunga. Minor delays can be expected at all sites.
