  • Hawke’s Bay Airport has installed two fast EV chargers to enhance accessibility for drivers.
  • Air New Zealand expects 101,000 customers flying to and from Hawke’s Bay this summer.
  • This is down from 105,389 visitors last year during the same period.

Hawke’s Bay Airport has installed two EV chargers, as Air New Zealand announces strong demand for flights to and from the region this summer.

The ChargeNet EV site is now operational, featuring two fast-charger stations located on the internal airport road.

Judi Godbold, manager of marketing and business growth at Hawke’s Bay Airport, highlights this as a step toward serving airport customers and visitors with accessible EV-charging infrastructure.

“We’re making EV charging convenient, simple and accessible for drivers,“ Godbold said.

“[EV] drivers will be able to add up to 200km of range within 30 minutes.”

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand general manager of airports Kate Boyer says the airline is gearing up to welcome 101,000 customers flying to and from Hawke’s Bay between December 1 and January 31.

“[With] a fantastic line-up of events including the Timeless Summer Tour featuring Boy George and Bonnie Tyler, and it’s clear Hawke’s Bay is holding out for a hero of a summer,” Boyer said.

However, this number is down from the same time last year, which saw 105,389 visitors arrive and depart Hawke’s Bay Airport from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024.

Air New Zealand is expecting to fly around 1.8 million customers domestically in December and January.

“During this busy travel season, we recommend allowing extra time at the airport, especially if you’re travelling with pets, oversized bags or require special assistance,” reminds Boyer.
