It was an emotional win for Merran Hain, of Gisborne, in the inaugural Marion Wilson Memorial Trophy at the Wairoa A&P show.

By winning the Open Horse high points class riding Untouchable, she claimed the trophy donated by Fenton and Sue Wilson and their children to commemorate the passing of Mr Wilson's mother, Marion, who introduced the show hunter section to the show more than 22 years ago. She was involved in the equestrian sport for many years as a competitor, pony club coach, dressage judge, hunting, administrator and volunteer.

Hain said her win was extra special as she was probably the only competitor in the class who knew Mrs Wilson, the pair having had a close connection for many years by being in partnership with horses, including Get Real, who competed successfully in the showjumping, show hunter and showing arenas, before being sold to a European connection.
