KATHY WEBB
Students at Guangxi Normal University in China could soon be studying for business degrees from Hawke's Bay's Eastern Institute of Technology.
The university and the institute have signed an agreement to develop a joint programme that would see students earning degrees from them both at the end of five years
of study in both China and New Zealand.
Students would spend two years at Guangxi studying English, then do the first year of the institute's bachelor of business studies degree. They would then come to Hawke's Bay and complete the second and third years of their business degree.
The institute's chief executive, Chris Collins, said there was a lot of work to be done to develop the programme. "We need to carefully assess our curriculum and determine cross-credit arrangements."
The two institutions have had a long-standing relationship linked to Hastings' sister-city relationship with Guilin. During the past 10 years they have shared many activities, including visiting scholars, reciprocal visits by senior staff, and the teaching of business courses at Guangxi.
A new visiting scholar has recently arrived in Hawke's Bay. Li Dongmei will observe and take part in management and marketing lectures.
