What glorious Christmas weather we have been having in the Bay.
While the rest of the country has succumbed to rain at some point or another, our good weather continues. The great thing about the weather is that while it is hot, it is not unbearably hot. Mostly, the temperatureshave remained around 25 or 26 degrees and have not strayed into the 30 degrees yet.
Having said that, Saturday was fairly humid and there was a bit of a wind about. As readers may know, I am a fan of our lovely cycle ways and regularly use them. Saturday was no exception and my two younger daughters and I, along with the dog, decided to ride from River Road to Black Bridge and back.
We had a fantastic time, although the girls were quite tired by the time we reached the Bivvy Cafe a few hundred metres from Black Bridge. For those of you who don't know about the Bivvy Cafe, it is a little kiosk among the vines run by Cat Kynoch on weekends and public holidays during summer.
This paper first featured Cat and her cafe in our Hidden Gems series almost two years ago. It was good to catch up with Cat and she told me that business was good on Boxing Day and Saturday. Many cyclists have being taking advantage of the chance to have a cool drink or a snack.
After a picnic at Black Bridge, the two daughters decided to hop in my wife's car rather than cycle all the way back. The dog also reckoned that was the better option. Luckily for me, my older daughter was on hand to accompany me back.
It was tiring, but once again it brought home to me how much we have to be thankful for in the Bay. Wonderful weather and plenty of opportunities to get out and do things, even something as simple as a bike ride and a picnic.
