These holidays Hawke's Bay Today is running a series of summer adventure stories, with reporters trying out activities available right on our doorstep.
So far the intrepid writers have introduced readers to the joys of wakeboarding, paddle-boarding, white water rafting and today's treat for the less aquatically inclined, mountain biking.
And there's more to come, and what it is highlighting for me is the amazing range of outdoor activity available to us here in Hawke's Bay.
It's largely taken for granted, I suspect. We just know they are there: long kilometres of cycle trails; hills and valleys to walk and run through; waterfalls and bush meanders; rivers and beaches and the chance to tramp in the ranges.
And those are just the free activities. Then we have our savvy business-folk who offer added-value experiences, popping punters on a raft, a horse or a hired bike. We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to getting out and getting active.
That seems to show when it comes to sporting events as well. From today and into next week our region is abuzz with cyclists enjoying the Summer Cycling Festival in and around Napier.
While this is happening dozens of the Bay's school children are trooping to Auckland, to compete at athletics in the annual Colgate Games.
The weather isn't looking the brightest for the Bay for a day or so but once it clears - or even before if you're a hardy soul - get out and have a summer adventure. See where it takes you.
