Spring - it can make you do silly things. For me, it's walking around with this goofy smile on my face and thinking everything looks just that little more vibrant, the meal I've eaten tastes just a little nicer and, depending on if you like the amber liquid or a little something special from one of our many great vineyards, that glass of liquid seems to go down a little too easily.

Yes, spring is well and truly here and, before we know it, summer will be knocking on our door. These past few days, I've been heading out to Marine Parade just to soak in the beautiful view of the ocean before I've headed into work. We are so lucky here in the Bay.

They say you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone but, when you look around at what the Bay has to offer, I thank God I live in a beautiful country like New Zealand.

I know I'm waxing lyrical a little bit, but you have to admit it's hard not to when the sun is out and the birds are singing.

Even last week, with all the rain, I could feel that goofy smile starting to creep on to my face. Sure, a lot of it had to do with the All Blacks being in town and the game being a sellout.

This weekend, the Magpies have their first defence of the Ranfurly Shield, when they take on Otago at McLean Park. Kick-off is Sunday 4.35pm. The MetService is predicting showers, with southwesterlies developing and an expected high of 17C.

But like the All Blacks test, it's important we support the Magpies. A large home crowd can sometimes make all the difference and a Shield win could keep this goofy smile on my face a little longer.
