There is something good about this time of year.

Apart from a few cold snaps, winter is over and summer is on the horizon.

Wealso have an extra-longweekend and, most importantly, it is Show time.

And what a special one it is this year. Not only is this the 150th Hawke's Bay Show, but it is the largest one as well.

It is incredible to think that it has been part of this region for so long and that is an indication of how valuable it is to our community. The nature and priorities of a show like this may have changed over the years, but it still has a huge role to play in our community.

By all accounts, the first official day went well and thankfully the weather has played its part. Hopefully today, the last day, is a good one.

It is up to us to support the Show and I would encourage readers to go and enjoy the day there. I went there for lunch yesterday and had a great time. I will be back today with the kids in tow. They will love it.

That's the great thing about the Show - there is something for everyone. From the markets and the shows; to the farmers and businessmen making deals and networking; to the kids simply enjoying the day.

Well done to Hawke's Bay A&P Society president Robert Pattullo and his board, and general manager Brent Linn and his team for all the hard work they have done to produce a top-quality event.

Clearly The Hawke's Bay Show is one of the best, if not the best, in the country.

Long may that continue.
