95-year-old Trevor Page.

95-year-old Trevor Page.

Dedication, it's a great quality to have and certainly something Trevor Page has in spades.

The active 95-year-old has decided to finally retire from the business he started 59 years ago.

Mr Page, who set up Page Plating in 1955, said he was surprised when family, friends and old work colleagues held a farewell function for him last Thursday. As is true to Mr Pages generation, despite it being his last day he was diligently working hard, taking stuff out to the dump and said he'd make sure he'd finish the job later.

At its height Mr Pages company employed 13 workers but changing times and the emergence of cheaper import steel, saw the numbers decline to five, then three and then to one Mr Page.

That's the sort of dedication I admire, people who are always there, through thick and thin, the good and the bad.

It's people like Mr Page who have helped shape and make this country of ours great.

Mr Page said work had been his main hobby, although he had been an enthusiastic aviator, owning and flying eight small planes through the years.

Now in retirement, and not able to fly, he was slightly at a loss at what he would do.

Not too many can say they have worked in the same job for almost 60 years let alone be still working at the age of 95. We all could take a leaf out of Mr Pages book of life and be dedicated to a worthwhile cause.

Mr Pages only concern now, he said, was worrying what he was going to do with all the spare time he now has. My suggestion, enjoy life you certainly deserve it.
