From Monday, January 16, we will be giving our readers more news, pictures and features from heartland Hawke's Bay.

Our daily publication Dannevirke News will be changing to broadsheet pages within Hawke's Bay Today Monday to Friday distributed throughout Hawke's Bay.

The change means Hawke's Bay Today's reporting staff will be bolstered by the addition of Dannevirke chief reporter Christine McKay and reporter Sonita Chandar.

We aim to publish one to two pages every weekday of news from Dannevirke, Tararua and Central Hawke's Bay.

The move promises to be a win for all our readers, allowing Hawke's Bay Today to boost its reporting on the Hawke's Bay heartland while ensuring our commitment to Dannevirke and Tararua.

On Saturdays we will continue to publish Dannevirke News as a separate tabloid liftout inserted into Hawke's Bay Today.

Our key editorial staff have met to discuss the change and there is real enthusiasm all round. Our daily news desk staff can't wait to get the extra resource of two dedicated reporters based in Dannevirke while Christine and Sonita say the support of the larger daily paper and the greater readership for their stories can only be good.

Hawke's Bay is such a large region that covering its news from one end to another is extremely challenging. Incorporating Dannevirke News into Hawke's Bay Today will greatly assist us to deliver more comprehensive coverage of the region for all readers.

Hawke's Bay Today general manager Russell Broughton says the move to publish Dannevirke News within Hawke's Bay Today will also be of benefit to businesses in the Dannevirke area. Their advertising will now go to 59,000 readers throughout the region.
