Illegally dumping rubbish is getting out of control.

Illegally dumping rubbish is getting out of control.

Fly tipping (illegally dumping rubbish) is getting out of control, both in Hawke's Bay and in the rest of the country.

Our front page yesterday showed a burning car dumped and torched on a riverbank - that tells the story, really.

People just can't be bothered to do the decent thing and get rid of their waste in the proper way.

Moaning about the cost of dump fees doesn't wash with me.

The rest of us have to suck it up and pay. Imagine if we all decided we weren't going to pay dump fees and started throwing everything out on the streets.

It makes me really mad when I see people throwing rubbish out of their car windows or opening their doors and piling takeaway packets onto the footpath.

I've seen people do this when they are just metres away from a rubbish bin.

A story on TV One this week showed images of rubbish, including televisions, dumped in the Coromandel area. Locals are getting the blame and I'm sure it's locals to blame for dumping rubbish in our area.

After all, if they can't afford the dump fees they are not going to drive very far and use their precious petrol.

We all need to get mad about this and dob in the dumpers.

You don't have to confront them because it might get ugly. Just take down a number plate if possible and ring the council.

Then it will be up to the council to set an example and punish these lazy sods.

Hawke's Bay is a beautiful place. We have reportedly had a bumper tourist season with visitors flocking to the area.

We need them to tell people what a clean and beautiful region we have.

Let's work on this together to stop the dumping.
