There are some truly remarkable people in this province.
There are people who toil tirelessly for charities or not for profit. There are others who have achieved great success in business, the arts, community initiatives or sport. Then there are the heroes - people who put their life at riskor even lose their life to save others.
We believe these people should receive honour and recognition and this is why we are running a campaign to find the Hawke's Bay Today Person of the Year. We hope this will become an annual event because we want to celebrate the good people in our community. The criteria for nominations are:
Someone who has made a significant contribution to the Hawke's Bay community in terms of charity, fund-raising or other non-profit organisation.
Or someone who has achieved remarkable success in their chosen business, career or sport.
Or a local who has demonstrated courageous or heroic actions.
Send your nominations - no more than 200 words - to editor@hbtoday.co.nz by Friday, November 29. Joining me on the judging panel are two people who have done a lot for their communities. Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce chief executive Wayne Walford and Hastings District councillor and Hawke's Bay District Health Board member Jacoby Poulain will help me choose the winner, who will be featured in Hawke's Bay Today Weekend on Saturday, December 14.
Since we launched the search in Saturday's paper we have already received some very worthy nominations.
