Autumn means many things in the Bay - not least of which is the seasonal Hawke's Bay Sports Awards.
Anyone who's been along to the glitzy awards dinner can attest to how highly contested and feted the categories are.
There's something unique, if not unprecedented, about having the best ofour myriad sporting codes descend on the one place at the one time.
And it's not until you've experienced the night that you get a sense of not just the camaraderie and passion needed to triumph at the top, but moreover the wealth of athletic talent that this region boasts.
For years now Hawke's Bay Today has been proud to support the awards - as has our wider NZME brand.
Speaking of which, we're also stoked to be behind The Hits People's Choice Award category - and we're urging you to vote for who you think should take out this popular award.
The four contesting the category at the pending awards include women's rugby icon Krysten Cottrell, international skier Piera Hudson, Hawks basketball captain Jarrod Kenny and Chiefs and Magpies rugby player Brad Weber.
While some of those names aren't as well known as others, the list of four has a nice cross-code feel and represents both local and international tastes.
The winner will be decided by public vote and will be announced at this year's awards dinner on Saturday, May 26, at Pettigrew-Green Arena.
We're also gifting a Garmin Vivofit 4 Activity Tracker to one voter drawn at the end of voting so go to subs@hbtoday.co.nz and get your votes in today.
