It's time to lace up the sneakers.
The Hawke's Bay Today Country2Coast is fast approaching.
We are proud to be involved with the annual event which encourages people to get out and give it a go.
The event caters for all shapes, sizes and ages. I completed my first Country2Coasttwo years ago. As a keen runner I'm always looking out for picturesque events. While I was unable to run due to injury, I enjoyed sun-kissed scenery during a brisk walk with a couple of girlfriends. We spoke as fast as we strolled which may explain how we came to be passed by a woman pushing a pram. But for us, the day was about the journey, not the destination.
The varying distances allow competitors to choose their goal, whether it be walking 8km with the kids, striding out 15km with workmates or tackling a 20km run.
This is what makes the event so appealing. Three Hohepa residents have been out walking around Pandora Pond as they make their debut in the 8km fun walk on Sunday April 26. Murray Pimm will also be at this year's event, lining up with his family.
Two years ago the closest he got to exercise was watching sport on the telly. But he decided to sort himself out so he could do more with the kids.
Last year he won a family entry into the Country2Coast. Not only did he run the 15km section with son Kairon, 11, but they then ran home afterwards.
Since then Kairon's really taken off and Murray is now fighting to keep up with him.
It's great to hear that events like this are encouraging people to live more active lives. And if you do hit the trails on April 26 you'll also pick up some feel-good endorphins along the way. See you there.
