Linda Hall.

I had the pleasure of talking to a lovely group of women on Wednesday night at the Waipukurau Club.

I was the guest speaker at Viewpoint and was greeted by president Linda (lovely name) Mackie.

These ladies have been meeting for years.

The February meeting was the first of the year and also the first time with new caterer The Lilly Pond.

The previous caterer had been with the group for 19 years and I heard how wonderful it was, so there were some big boots to fill.

I have spoken to a few groups before and always get really nervous.

My talk was on my 23-year-journey in the newspaper industry, the changes along the way and what my role as assistant editor entails.

People always listen politely ... well, mostly.

Then I ask them what they like and don't like about Hawke's Bay Today.

That always gets hands in the air.

Wednesday night's Q&A was robust and lots of fun.

The most important point I try to get across is that Hawke's Bay Today loves engaging with its readers, whether that be through letters to the editor, texts, emails or phone calls.

We are part of your community and we strive every day to keep you informed, entertained and interested.

We are always looking at ways to improve and bring you fair and balanced stories from hard news to good news.

So, Viewpoint ladies, thank you for having me and I'm working on your questions and queries.

Oh, and the new caterers did themselves proud with a delicious two-course meal.
