Linda Hall, Assistant Editor, Hawke's Bay Today.

Finally everyone seems to have taken and deep breath and stopped running around — or maybe they are just a little jaded after New Year celebrations.

Yesterday was the first time in weeks that the roads haven't been frantic and I've been able to get in and out of the supermarket without straining my neck all in directions to make sure the coast was clear.

Hawke's Bay has been crazy. Finding a park in either of the twin cities over the past couple of weeks has been near impossible.

I've called on the parking fairy to help me numerous times with no luck and ended up driving round in circles before parking miles (well that may be a slight exaggeration) away from my destination.

In hindsight it wasn't a bad thing — every little bit of exercise at this time of the year helps.

I've lived in the Bay a long time and I've never seen it so busy. I guess it's a sign of the times.

Everywhere you go these days there are more and more people.

New Year's celebrations at both the Sound Shell in Napier and the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds Tomoana in Hastings were packed.

While there had been no reports to police of bad behaviour at either event there was chatter on social media about a group of youths fighting at the Sound Shell.

Police did however remove two people from the event for "disturbing the peace".

One family with young children said they packed up and went home because of it. It's a shame that a minority can ruin a night out for others.

These are family events and there is no place for people looking to cause trouble — stay home next time.
