What a dirty few weeks in politics it has been and it certainly makes the elections very interesting.

It is incredible that we are only a few weeks away from the election and the polls are showing that things are certainly getting tighter. We have not seen much dirt in the campaigns in Hawke's Bay, apart from a few billboards being defaced, but the battles certainly are fierce.

Hawke's Bay Today has been devoting quite a bit of space to covering this election and we will continue to do so as the time draws near. We will tell readers more about the candidates standing in the different electorates and we will also be focusing on the issues that matter to voters.

We also believe it is important for our readers to hear what the candidates have to say and for their questions to be answered.

For this reason, we are organising Meet the Candidates debates across our region, so that people can hear what the people who want to represent you in Parliament stand for first-hand. We will be giving more details in the run up to the public meetings, but here are the dates:

In addition to this, our sister newspaper the Wairarapa Times-Age will host a candidates event in Masterton on September 4.

After this, it is up to you to decide.
