Hawke's Bay has proven it's more than capable of hosting big events. Pictured is Napier CBD.

Hawke's Bay gets to show off its ability to host events again later this week with the Super Rugby match between the high-flying Hurricanes and the Highlanders at McLean Park and the start of the Winter Food and Wine Classic (FAWC) on Friday.

It has been a busy start to the year, with Tremains Art Deco Weekend, the Farmlands Horse of the Year Show, the Hawke's Bay Today Country2Coast, the Hawke's Bay Sports Awards and numerous other events in between. Looking ahead, we still have the league match between the Melbourne Storm and the St George Illawarra Dragons at the park on July 25, the Hawke's Bay A&P Show, the Wine Awards and summer FAWC, among plenty more.

The list is endless and shows that we are capable of hosting events big and small. Almost every weekend there is something on the go in the Bay and our photographers are usually kept busy.

We like it that way and we support and sponsor a number of the events I have mentioned and others as well.

This region has so much going for it and it is good to see organisations and the councils working hard to bring events to the Bay.

We love living here and it is important that we attract tourists here as well.

FAWC is a good example of an event that has grown in reputation and this year's winter version, which runs from this Friday for the month of June, has 26 of the 49 individual events already sold out.

Similarly, there is good news for Friday's big rugby match where they are close to putting up the sold-out sign.

That's the way to get more events, support the ones that do come here.
