In some cultures Friday is considered unlucky. In Christianity it was a day of fasting.

Things have moved - in many cases full circle.

Black or austere Fridays have been replaced by casual Friday. The evolving change was predictable given Friday is the day before Saturday.

But in my household there's an extra reason to celebrate Friday.

It's not the fish 'n' chips, the fact school lunches don't need to be cut or the fact the ironing board can stay in the cupboard.

No, the Friday night highlight comes courtesy of the sublime comic TV septet that is 7 Days.

Host Jeremy Corbett is complemented by the urbane Dai Henwood and Paul Ego with recurring comedians making up the two teams each week.

Corbett starts each show with a smirk while he delivers the ironic content warning "some lines may offend", hopefully.

It's not often our best comedians appear in the same arena, with the finest moments coming when they knock an idea around like a game of ping pong.

After a late Friday shift there's nothing better than to sit and watch with a glass of something cold.

My wife has complained on more than one occasion that my belly laughs have woken her and the kids.

The crew are here in Napier on December 11 and that's something to celebrate.

These chaps and ladies have handed us back our Fridays with a healthy dose of the irreverent, the subversive and the riotously funny.
