Banter bounced between cyclists and triathletes at the Shoe Clinic duathlon at the weekend.

While the triathletes triumphed in the individual races of the first event of the Friendly Dental Duathlon Series, the teams of A-grade cyclists posted some impressive times as family members ran in Haumoana.

Triathlon Hawke's Bay general manager Mike Bond said it was great to see some Hawke's Bay Ramblers Cycling Club members participating in a healthy team competition.

It was Brendon Vesty and son Karsen who took the team's title completing The Hits long course (4km run, 21km cycle, 4km run) in 1h 6m 42s.

The first male home was junior Christian Davey in 1h 5m 08 while Amber Morrison was the first female in 1h 11m 8s.

In the Horleys middle-distance race (4km run 21km 2km run), Tracey Chatterton was first across the line in 1h 7m 35s with Michael de Vos the first man in 1h 12m 34s.

Jamie Webster was the quickest over the Peak Fitness short course (2km run, 14km cycle, 2km run) with junior Portia Wright the first female.

Bond said it was a "picture perfect" day for the more than 70 competitors.
