Motorists are asked to reduce speeds as bridge repairs are carried out over the Karamu Stream on SH2.

Motorists are asked to reduce speeds as bridge repairs are carried out over the Karamu Stream on SH2.

Upgrading highway safety and maintenance programmes across several Hawke's Bay highways will mean travel delays, and warnings from the NZ Transport Agency to drive with caution where contractor vehicles are operating.

Some crews are also continuing to remove the last patches of debris from slips on parts of State Highway 2 north between Bay View and Kotemaori.

Temporary speed restrictions have been put in place in those areas along with stop-go signalling, and motorists can expect to add about five minutes to their travel times.

There are also likely to be delays around the Nuhaka area of the highway as contractors continue repair work on the Tahaenui Bridge.

A traffic-light control system has been put in place.

On the southern stretch of SH2 safety work including seal widening and roadmarking is being done.

Widening work is being carried out at sites between Peka Peka and Mahanga, with speed restrictions and stop-go signalling in place.

Similar restrictions are in place between Te Aute and Waipawa while drainage maintenance crews are at work, and motorists are also advised to watch for road-marking vehicles between Paki Paki and Waipawa.

Roadmarking teams are also working along SH50 between Fernhill and Takapau.

Speed restrictions will be in place at times around the Karamu Stream Bridge between Napier and Hastings.
