A driver could be facing charges after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a garage in Havelock North about 1pm yesterday.

Police at the scene said the driver was uninjured and had swerved off the road after driving around a corner too quickly in the wet conditions.

"Both the driver and the occupants were fine, just a bit shaken," the officer said.

Police were not immediately sure what charges the driver would be facing and said "inexperience" also had a part to play in the accident.

The occupant of the house, who did not wish to be named, was vacuuming at the time and did not see the vehicle coming.

"I just heard a really big noise but I didn't see anything, I was vacuuming and had my head down." She said the incident was a bit of a shock and "not something you see every day".

Police said the car would likely be written off.

One neighbour said she also heard a loud noise and looked outside to see the emergency services.

She said the corner was normally safe.

"It's the first time I've seen anything like it around here, since I've been here anyway."
