Audio evidence from a Coroner's hearing into the death of a Napier kindergarten teacher in a car crash on Prebensen Drive in Napier in 2014. Pam McGarva died 10 days after she was driven into almost head-on by Lyree Sayers.

A driver in a car crash which killed a Napier kindergarten teacher has been accused of making up her evidence at a Coroner's hearing.

Pam McGarva died ten days after Lyree Sayers crashed into her on Prebensen Drive in Napier, in 2014.

Sayers was found not guilty of manslaughter, after police alleged she purposely swerved into Ms McGarva to try to kill herself.

Sayers is giving evidence for the first time about the crash - she refused to make a statement to police and didn't give evidence at her jury trial.

Crown prosecutor Clayton Walker claimed she was lying about her lack of memory of the crash.

Mr Walker said to her "you know you deliberately crashed into that car, but you won't admit it because you cannot believe you did it."

Sayers said she has no memory of the crash, and denies that she is lying about her lack of memory.

The partner of Sayers at the time of the crash also gave evidence to the Coroner's hearing today.

Shane Phillips said that after the crash she told him she "may have" crashed deliberately.

A friend of the couple, Shelly Soanes has also given evidence.

Ms Soanes said Lyree Sayers told her if Mr Phillips ever left her, she would kill herself.
