Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says his staff will investigate after a man tweeted a photo of a council car parked across a disabled parking space in Wellington at the weekend.
The photo, tweeted by Wellington resident Maika Bennett yesterday, appeared to show a marked council car parked across a disabledparking space.
"Some slightly inconsiderate parking from a Hastings District Council car in Kilbirnie today," read the caption.
Mr Bennett said he snapped the photo in the car park beside the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre.
"I took the photo at about 7.30am and the car was still parked there at 10am when I left."
There had been a dearth of free parking spaces at the time he took the photo.
"There was a Swimming NZ event on at the aquatic centre [yesterday] and the annual Round the Bays race, which finishes in Kilbirnie, was also on [yesterday]. Because of that there were next to no car parks available in Kilbirnie. A lot of runners park their cars in Kilbirnie and bus into the city for the start of the race."
Asked why the car had been parked in the disabled parking space, Mr Yule replied: "I have no idea but will get it investigated. Regardless, it is completely unacceptable."
