NZ Singing School-Te Wananga Toi Waiata patron Dame Malvina Major will officially open the 25th school on January 5 at EIT's Wine Centre.
Inaugural Black Barn Artist in Residence Anna Leese will sing, accompanied by school tutor Professor Terence Dennis, while Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Chris Finlayson is also expected
to attend.
British-based soprano Leese, who recently picked up a $25,000 New Generation Award thanks to Freemasons New Zealand and Arts Foundation New Zealand, is touring China with tenor Jose Carreras. Leese will also perform at the classical concert on January 13 and at the gala concert finale on January 15.
This year, 86 students from throughout New Zealand and Australia will attend the school. Tutors include faculty director Judy Bellingham, David Harper, Conal Coad and Karen Grylls.
