Former Hawke's Bay Magpies rugby fullback Jarrod Cunningham arrives home tomorrow, ending his association with the London Irish club - his time there marked by his battle with ALS, a form of motor neurone disease.
In June, 2002, the former New Zealand Maori, Blues andHurricanes representative was diagnosed with the condition, which ended his career.
Cunningham said he had decided to return home to family for the summer.
"I would like to thank London Irish, its staff and players, and its incredible supporters for their friendship and support over the past, difficult two years."
Cunningham, 35, joined London Irish in July, 1998, after a successful domestic career in New Zealand. He was presented with the "spirit of rugby" award at the International Rugby Board's awards in London on Sunday.
