The party continues for CD Stags skipper Kruger van Wyk this summer.

Having lifted the Ford Trophy last Sunday, the wicketkeeper is now bracing himself for a much more treasured arrival - a baby girl.

He and wife Zenandi are expecting their second child tomorrow, everything going to plan, so Van Wyk is not playing today when CD resume their first-class Plunket Shield campaign in Queenstown.

"We have a little girl arriving ... so I'll be spending some time at home and be a bit of support to Zenandi and hope she goes all well with that."

The mother has named the baby Zolie because her name starts with a "z" too but Van Wyk said although it was not a traditional Afrikaans name, it could be passed off as one.

The ex-Black Cap said the Stags played outstandingly throughout the 50-over competition, commendably facing their biggest challenge to maintain the standard they had started off with.

Consistency going into the finals boosted their confidence.

While Central Districts were hoping some of that would rub off on them in the shield, he emphasised the four-day format was a different beast to tame.

"Skills get tested, both mentally and physically, so it will require a monumental effort to really dig deep to do well in these last eight weeks of Plunket Shield cricket, where the men are separated from the boys."

Spoils came on the platform of toiling but it was essential the Central players kept their feet on the ground.

Van Wyk said in his absence it was a great opportunity for not only George Worker to captain the side but also the young talent to shine.

"It gives these guys experience in different roles and I'm sure they'll do really well and enjoy the opportunities," he said.
