The game will go on despite the threat of summer showers being cast over today's Legends of Cricket match.

To be played at Te Awanga's Clifton County Cricket Club as part of the Art Deco Weekend festivities, the match has attracted some of the game's greats, including former Australian fast bowler Jeff Thomson, New Zealand batsman Mark Greatbatch and other former Black Caps Dion Nash and Chris Harris.

Former All Black Marc Ellis, English cricketer Adam Hollioake, Evan Gray, Erv McSweeney, Shane Thomson, and actor Shane Cortese are all expected to pad up for the friendly T20 game.

Former Black Caps wicketkeeper and now sports commentator Ian Smith will also take part in the day, as will 1992 Cricket World Cup player of the tournament and New Zealand great Martin Crowe.

Unfortunately changes to Sir Ian Botham's commentary schedule mean the former English allrounder can no longer be part of the day.

An Art Deco theme will feature players in traditional 1930s cricket attire and a host of sideline activity celebrating the era.

Yesterday a group of the players ventured to the world famous Cape Kidnappers Golf Course for a round of golf.

Hawke's Bay Tourism communications manager Vicky Roebuck said ticket sales were going "gang busters" and the match would go on regardless of a few showers. The forecast for the area is for morning cloud before fine spells, light winds and a 25C high.
