A crash on the Hawke's Bay Expressway has caused cars to back up between Pakowhai and Taradale.

A truck and car have crashed and the truck which has a semi trailer unit has jackknifed.

A police spokeswoman said the crash happened at about 1:50pm between Links Rd and the Meeanee off-ramp.

"It is on the Hastings side of the bridge and it is unknown at this point if there are any injuries."

The Commercial Vehicle Investigation unit were en route and ambulance were on scene.

Traffic management was also at the scene.

Police were also called to a car verse pole at about 1:50pm today on SH50 between Maraekakaho and

A police spokeswoman said the car overturned in to a paddock and police, fire and ambulance were all on scene.

"There were concerns about the power lines falling a bit low from the crash," she said.

Police were unsure what the injuries were and how many people were in the vehicle.
