Couple tie the knot in Art Deco style

Guests donning pearls, feathers, braces and boater hats stood on as a bride and groom said "I do".

It was a wedding with a deco twist.

Former Hawke's Bay softball representative and Taradale rugby stalwart Paul Wise and fiancee Natalie Eliasson tied the knot at Linden Estate Winery on Saturday.

The couple, who had been together for six years, were both big fans of the style.

The bride wore a dress from the United States which had Deco features added to it.

The groom and his groomsmen dressed in matching shorts, braces, and high socks.

The couple's 18-month-old son Benji was also dressed for the occasion, in a smaller version of the groomsmen's outfits.

Mr Wise said the day had been great, and that everyone had an absolute ball. "We've had amazing feedback, everyone really enjoyed it. People went to great effort, there wasn't a single person not dressed up - even the barmaids and Linden Estate staff got into it."

Aside from marrying his fiancee, Mr Wise said his favourite part of the day was the photo booth they had at the reception.

"It was fantastic because everyone was already dressed up ... we have photos that you just wouldn't get otherwise."

The Art Deco theme continued into the reception, where guests were entertained by two different bands who mixed in Deco era jazz with modern covers as the evening progressed.

Natalie's family had flown in from Sweeden for the ceremony, and had "absolutely" loved the day.

Mr Wise said: "They can't stop raving about it. I think they're really looking forward to the [Tremains Art Deco Festival], and I don't think they're looking forward to leaving New Zealand."

Luckily the family of the new Mrs Wise won't be leaving without seeing more of the country.

The newlyweds are travelling to Rotorua for the weekend, but will be returning to Hawke's Bay on Wednesday to make sure they don't miss the Art Deco celebrations.

With Natalie's family, they will be travelling to Waimarama, before heading to the Coromandel.
