Hawke's Bay District Health Board says despite the cost of the gastro outbreak and remaining illnesses it is business as usual for the organisation.
The cost of the recent Havelock North campylobacter outbreak to Hawke's Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) is estimated to be $380,000.
Chief executive Dr Kevin Snee said more than half of the cost - $216,000 - was due to staff illness.
Extra costs incurred included $66,000 for the intensive Care
Unit, $24,000 for community health surveys and $41,000 for medical supplies/resources.
"Whilst the estimates were an extra cost burden to HBDHB, they were not at a level that had been disruptive to the organisation," he said.
Three weeks later there were still people sick from the outbreak but the situation was "very much back to business as usual".
"We continue to work closely with Hastings District Council and Hawke's Bay Regional Council to investigate the cause of the outbreak and we welcome the National Inquiry that has recently been announced.
"There will be many lessons for us locally, and for New Zealand, moving forward."
