A family cooking food for Jimmy Laulu's wake caused a shed fire on the corner of Lander Place and Lander St in Flaxmere just before 3pm yesterday.
Two fire trucks attended the scene along with police and ambulance.
Police said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
The blaze
was under control within about 30 minutes thanks to the help of neighbours.
Immediate neighbour Phoenix, who did not want his last name used, said his family were quick to respond, grabbing a hose and helping douse the flames.
