On Saturday, March 5, Central Hawke's Bay College hosted the Tumu ITM Hawke's Bay Secondary Schools Rugby Sevens champs.
The first time this competition has been contested in a tournament format, 13 teams attended, with the premier division title taken out by Hastings Boys High School, and Feilding taking homethe under-15 boys division.
CHB College senior captain Kayden Kingi hotfoots it away from a Napier Boys' High School player.
Tournament chairman Jamie Welch said some very competitive games were played. The top-ranked Hawke's Bay teams qualified for the Condor Sevens to be held later this year.
Opposing teams picked the Most Valuable Players with CHB College student Lachlan Welch and Feilding High School player Coby Osborne sharing the MVP of the Tournament title.
Feilding High School's Josiah Maraku was awarded the Open Grade MVP gong and the sportsmanship award went to Kianu Kerere-Symes from Hastings Boys High School.
Mr Welch thanked all the CHB College parents, staff, students and community who made the day possible. He also thanked Tumu ITM for their sponsorship, the referees, and all the schools that attended.
