More homes than ever may be infested with cluster flies this year because of a warm moist summer and a gradual increase in fly numbers over the past decade.
The annual influx of the cluster flies, also known as attic flies, has begun in rural homes and farms and there has
been a dramatic increase in customers trying to get rid of infestations, Pest control company Kiwicare spokesman David Brittain said.
The flies gather together in dark dry nooks in homes in autumn and remain dormant until colder weather wakes them up.
Mr Brittain recommended that people seal up any places where flies could crawl in and use long-lasting surface sprays on those entry points.
