Zonta have kicked off an anti-violence campaign around the country.
The Zonta Club of Hawke's Bay, along with members of the local community, is joining nearly 1200 Zonta clubs in 67 countries for the Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women campaign.
The campaign, which runs for 16 days from November 25 to December 10, was launched in 2012, and
is a global call to end violence against women and girls in communities around the world. Zonta International (ZI) calls on parents, educators, administrators, policy and lawmakers to address prevention of root causes of violence through education.
Zonta Club of Hawke's Bay will be displaying a selection of orange dolls in a variety of locations, with each one presenting information about domestic violence in New Zealand in the past year.
"We aim to raise awareness about domestic violence against women and families in our community. The orange dolls display is a tangible way to bring to light this terrible and ongoing problem," said Heather Morrish, president of Zonta Club of Hawke's Bay.
"The Zonta Club of Hawke's Bay was founded in 1973 and works locally on projects in our community. For example, we fundraise to provide annual awards that target different groups of women from Hawke's Bay to assist with their ongoing education and we made 110 breast cushions for local breast cancer patients this year.
