Even the teachers at Camberley Primary School couldn't keep their bodies from going crazy yesterday when Tommy the Clown dropped by to visit.
The inventor of Clowning, a style of dance born in the streets of Los Angeles, stopped in to the school as part of a regional tour spreading the
word about the importance of good schooling, good attendance and an all-round good attitude.
Pupils at Camberley School, Hastings, were in for a treat when Tommy and his crew of clowns took the stage. A quick call for volunteers to showcase their "krumping" and "clowning" saw about 20 children step up to the challenge, including Rochai Haerewa who took over the mic.
Tommy said young Kiwis tended to emulate the US lifestyle which did include gang-related trends.
Tommy's method is simple - start good copycat trends.
Rocco, Larry, King Tight and Casper laid down the challenge and backed it up with some of the most revolutionary moves.
The crew helped Tommy spread the word yesterday, thanks to Te Ora Hou Hawke's Bay, which sponsored the visit, and Mai FM.
The clowns will take the stage with Tommy tonight from 7 o'clock at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds. Tickets are $15 and door sales are available.
