A child is in a critical condition after being found by police at a Flaxmere address.

Police were called to a family harm incident at a Ramsey Place address at 10pm on Wednesday night.

The child was found inside the property and taken to hospital. A scene guard was in place at the address.

A police spokesperson said they were looking into the circumstances of how the child came to be injured.

A spoeskwoman from the District Health Board said the patient was transferred to Wellington Hospital for further specialist treatment.

A Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesman confirmed on Friday morning the child remained in a critical condition in ICU.
