A 35 year-old man has been charged with reckless driving causing the death of one of his workmates following a fatal crash on August 28.
Wattie Junior Heta, a machine operator at Higgins roading contractors, from Napier South appeared in the Napier District Court yesterday charged with operating a motor vehicle
recklessly and thereby causing the death of Kevin Roy Millar.
The crash happened about 12.30pm on August 28 as 41-year-old Napier father-of-four Mr Millar was leaving work on his motorbike and collided with a company truck returning from a job.
The accident happened outside the gate of the company's Awatoto yard. Four of his workmates were in the truck.
Counsel Bill Calver sought a remand without plea until October 27.
