Hawke's Bay Today will undergo some exciting changes from next week.

At the beginning of the month, Beacon Print, based in Wilson Rd, Hastings, began printing Hawke's Bay Today on a new printing press.

This press has allowed changes to be made to the make up of the paper.

The paper will now be printed in one run and black and white pages will not be used any more.

From next Monday, there will be some changes to the paper.

It will remain a compact and the design will largely remain the same, the format of the paper will change.

Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin said the new press opened up a world of opportunities.

"We are not constrained by the printing press any more and are able to present a newspaper in a format that will be easy for the readers.

"The paper will still be packed full of local news, but there will be a better flow to the paper," he said.

One of the changes will see the Dannevirke News page move from the back of the paper to the front, just behind the local news pages.

The Monday paper returns to a single section paper, with sport returning to its traditional spot at the back of the paper. The popular Weekend in Pictures pages move to the middle of the paper, just after the opinion pages.

The big change later in the week will see entertainment magazine Vibe move from a Thursday to a Wednesday.

Mr Austin said Vibe was also being given a spruce up and would fit well into the Wednesday paper.

He said more details of other changes would be announced each day this week.
