Camping hotspot: Waiwhenua farmstay

Farming is ubiquitous in Hawke's Bay, with many, if not all, locals having memorable farm experiences at one point or another.

However, nestled on the bank of the Tutaekuri River just an hour out of Hastings you will find a farm that is very much set apart from the rest.

Waiwhenua Farmstay offers cottages, glamping and riverside camping to all who are seeking a true taste of farming paradise this summer.

Waiwhenua Farmstay owner Kirsty Hill has lived on the property all her life and said it's a privilege to share the farmstay's beauty with others.

"I like to share what we have with other people and it's pretty special to be able to do that." Ms Hill described the property as a "wild game safari" where birds of all kinds can be found. Along with its wildlife one of the most attractive features of this local hotspot is the modern comfort it offers.

"It's less than one hour from Hastings and we have everything here including hot water. People just need to bring food and wine," Ms Hill said.

Those wishing to have a camping experience without the hassle of organising their own equipment can also "glamp" on the farmstay in a two-room canvas tent with kitchen, washing facilities and pizza oven.

Another accommodation option is Annie's Cottage, a historic farm cottage built in 1880 that has charm as well as modern practicality.

The authentic accommodation facilities combined with the surrounding natural wildlife makes Waiwhenua Farmstay a destination well worth visiting.

"It gives people a real experience of farm life," Ms Hill said.
