Senior firefighter Jamie McCarthy with the Napier Fire Brigade's shiny new fire engine, worth a cool $1.2 million. The addition of the Bronto Skylift appliance is a major boost for the Napier brigade. With its high-reach ladders, it's capable of saving lives.
Station officer Jamie Nichol said the engine had
arrived from Wellington a few weeks ago, to replace one of the brigade's existing appliances, the "snorkel".
Mr Nichol said the brigade's firefighters would need six to eight weeks' training on the Bronto Skylift's pumps and ladder system, before the appliance could be considered ready for action.
The Napier Fire Brigade last received a new engine six or seven years ago, Mr Nichol said.
