Truck battery scam
A man has been charged with stealing truck batteries after a police investigation of a bogus charity operation in Hawke's Bay.
An officer said businesses were approached by a man asking for old batteries, claiming they were being collected and disposed of as part of a charity fundraiser.
One charge had been laid, leading to the appearance of 38-year-old Jason Brent Beswarick yesterday in Napier District Court, charged with the theft of eight batteries from a firm in Hastings on May 4.
He entered no plea and was remanded on bail to appear in court again next Wednesday.
Show not this weekend
An article in yesterday's edition incorrectly reported the Hastings Poultry and Pigeon Show would be held this weekend.
The 108th annual show will be held on June 25 and 26 at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds.
This year the show features the New Zealand Pekin Club and the North Island Rosecomb and Sebright Club.
